That depends on your insurance. ElementalMed does not accept insurance. However, upon request, a superbill will be provided for reimbursement from insurance, flex savings account or health savings account.

Treatments include one to three sets of needle insertion and may be augmented with infrared heat, myofascial release, trigger point needling and cupping. The number of needles used is variable and is guided by palpatory diagnosis, but in general Japanese acupuncture favors fewer needles. Each needle set is left in for 15 to 40 minutes.
At times, Dr. O’Neill will recommend a blended Acupuncture/OMT visit for best results. (See rates for cost.)
Simple treatment-related lifestyle and supplement recommendations are offered during acupuncture and OMT visits.
Discussions that move to broader issues such as lab interpretation, detailed supplement review, nutrition plans, or chronic disease management, enter the realm of integrative medicine consultation, which is billed separately so that Dr O'Neill can dedicate the appropriate time and attention to those recommendations.
-
Please arrive to your appointment in loose clothing, hydrated and without plans for vigorous mental or physical activity after the treatment.
-
There is no set number of treatments for specific conditions. New injury or illness, if treated early, may need only a few treatments to resolve. Chronic conditions often take four to eight treatments to stabilize. And like many other therapeutic interventions, maintenance treatments — but at longer intervals— are often needed to continue the benefits.
Generally, weekly treatments are recommended for the first four to six weeks, with any subsequent visits spaced out at greater intervals. However, visit frequency can be adjusted as needed to accommodate time and budget constraints. Implementing positive lifestyle changes will allow the body to “hold” the treatments for longer.
-
Everyone responds to acupuncture differently. Some may experience total or partial relief of their pain or symptoms after the first few treatments, while others notice a steady gradual improvement. In some cases relief may not be felt until several days after the treatment. Some people may notice that their pain or other symptoms intensify before getting better. Regardless of the main symptom being treated, most patients notice improvements in sleep, stress and energy within the first one to two visits.
-
No. While most patients experience some benefit from acupuncture, every person responds differently. If you do not notice improvement after 4-6 treatments, we'll revisit your goals and determine whether acupuncture or another treatment approach is the best fit for you.
-
If you need to cancel, please notify us at least 24 hours before the appointment so that someone else may benefit from the treatment time. Appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours notice will incur a fee equal to the 50% of the visit cost. (Exceptions are made for emergencies).
If you arrive less than 20 minutes late, treatment can be provided but may be shortened to keep the clinic on schedule. If you arrive more than 20 minutes late, this is considered a missed appointment.

No. While her years of primary care work inform care plans, Dr. O’Neill is a functional and integrative medicine consultant. Patients should have a primary care provider for routine care and screenings.

Initial Integrative Consultation
Adult $495 (60-75 mins)
Child (<18) $375 (45-60 mins)Your care begins before your first appointment. The Initial Integrative Consultation includes both the pre-visit physician data review and synthesis and your consultation appointment.
Unlike many medical practices, ElementalMed dedicates physician time to reviewing your health history, intake forms, medications, supplements, and any relevant records before your visit. This thoughtful preparation creates a more meaningful and efficient consultation, allowing us to spend less time gathering information and more time discussing your health concerns, goals, and treatment options.
Integrative Medicine Follow-up
Follow-up integrative medicine visits are billed according to the time devoted to your care, at a rate equivalent to $90 per 15 minutes.
Most follow-up visits last 20–45 minutes, depending on the complexity of your concerns, the number of topics discussed, and whether laboratory results are being reviewed. This flexible approach allows patients to receive the time and attention they need without paying for a predetermined visit length.
ElementalMed’s streamlined practice model allows us to focus resources on patient care rather than administrative overhead. This approach provides transparent pricing, longer visits, and direct access to your physician without many of the constraints often imposed by insurance-based care.
We believe financial considerations should not prevent access to care. Short-term payment plans may be available upon request.

The Initial Integrative Consultation includes pre-visit physician review and a comprehensive consultation, which typically lasts about 60 minutes.
At least three days prior to the visit, please submit the ElementalMed forms as well as any relevant health records/labs from the past year you’d like to discuss.

This depends on your health status, what supports you need, how you want to engage and how you respond interventions. Wellness plans can incorporate a full functional medicine “deep dive” with specialty labs or may start with the fundamentals of effective lifestyle, nutrition and supplement recommendations based on a functional symptom questionnaire and review of labs done via your primary care provider.
Or you may be savvy on your health issues, well-read on integrative medicine, and simply desire an occasional 15 to 30 minute consultation for a professional opinion to guide your plan. For example, “Which is the best type and formulation of magnesium for me?”, “How can I best support detox?” or “How can I optimize my health for disease prevention?”.
-
Yes. Visits by video and phone are available. This is an option for local and non-local North Carolina residents. Cost is the same as in-person visits.

Occasionally, four to six small acupuncture press tack needles are inserted to facilitate the healing response. However, you can opt for a needle-free treatment.

Weekly treatments for two to four sessions are recommended to stabilize the body and normalize structural patterns. Follow-up is then as needed. Results often last weeks to months.
The goal in OMT is create a new functional pattern so there is not continual reliance on a treating provider. Home exercises and stretches are often recommended to help keep the treatment benefit.
-
Most people feel calm, relaxed and with freer body movement on the first treatment. Mild soreness lasting 3-7 days after treatment is possible and is usually considered a normal part of the healing and rebalancing process.
Potential benefits of OMT that are often realized after one to two sessions include: reduction of pain or discomfort, greater flexibility and strength, restoration of symmetry, improvement in numbness or tingling, reduction of swelling, enhancement of the body's natural healing mechanism, and improvement in function of the body's organ systems.
